Ignition Festival of New Plays Logo

Client: Victory Gardens Theater
Redrawing the main logo for Victory Gardens Theater also required reworking the branding for the theater’s sub-brands under its umbrella. Among these was the annual Ignition Festival of New Plays, an annual three-day event that includes staged readings of six new plays from up and coming playwrights from across the country.
Previously, this event had no distinct branding of its own, with the logos often changing from year to year. Many of these logos were either messy, hard to duplicate across platforms, or difficult to read at small sizes.
To rebrand, I used a simple matchstick motif coupled with the new Victory Gardens Sans typeface, set in the brand’s black and orange. For the 2018 festival — the tenth iteration of Ignition — I changed the “io” to a number 10, highlighting in orange and adding small serifs to the “i” to make it clear.
